Peru - Olleros
Olleros is a small village in the Peruvian Andes, south of Huaraz, the capital of the Ancash province.
During the violent years of the 1980s and 1990s, Olleros, like the rest
of Perú, was divided by two political parties. The violence emerged
from the terrorist group called “SENDERO LUMINOSO”, an armed political
party and another political group called “MRTA”. A violent wave of
massacres and abuses were generated, and killing was done not only by
the terrorist groups but also by the FFAA (military) and the police.
Now those violent years are over.

Flores "The shaman"
Flores is the “shaman” of the village. He lives in the countryside, a couple of hour’s walk from Olleros. He lives with his wife and two sisters. His sons left for Lima , the capital of Perú, to escape the terrorism in the 1980s. He says he was very lucky during those violent years, because the shamans were normally persecuted and murdered. They were accused of sorcery and theft by the terrorists, who did not share the Andean beliefs of the village people.
